Defer or Avoid Capital Gains Tax With 1031 Exchanges
If you own a significant piece of property you may be required to pay a 15 percent capital gains tax when you sell it. There is a way to avoid or defer those taxes with an IRS Section 1031 exchange. Basically, a 1031 exchange allows you to avoid or defer taxes owed for the sale of a property, by exchanging it for a second property. A lawyer will need to execute this transaction for you, as well as explain the pros and cons and tax ramifications. A 1031 exchange can be used for the sale of a farm, a parcel of undeveloped land, or for developed residential or commercial property. However, a 1031 exchange may not be used for your principle place of residence.
Our family of attorneys would be pleased to represent you or your family with any of your real estate issues. Call 360-633-2036 or use this contact form to schedule an initial consultation.
